  1. Your hosting provider (e.g., Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Bluehost, or Hostinger) will supply two or more nameservers for your domain.
  2. Provide these nameservers to your domain registrar so that your domain can be delegated to the hosting provider. Some registrars allow you to enter the nameservers directly through the domain management panel.

  3. The hosting provider will typically grant access to a DNS management interface such as cPanel, where you can add and manage DNS records for your domain.

Common DNS Record Types and Their Uses

  • A Record: Maps your domain name to a specific IP address (e.g., 192.0.2.1).
  • CNAME Record: Redirects a subdomain (e.g., sales.example.com) to another domain name.
  • MX Record: Specifies the mail server responsible for receiving email for the domain.
  • TXT Record: Stores text information used for verification and security purposes (e.g., SPF, DKIM, or domain ownership verification).

Many services—such as Google, Microsoft, Cloudflare, and Amazon Web Services—require domain ownership verification before allowing you to configure services like email, hosting, or security features.

Common Methods for Verifying Domain Ownership

  1. WHOIS Verification
Some systems verify ownership by checking the domain’s WHOIS registration details.

The verification service will review the information listed with the domain registrar. For .gy domains, the WHOIS records can be checked at:
https://whois.registry.gy

  1. DNS Record Verification (Most Common)
This method requires you to add a special TXT record to your domain’s DNS settings.

For example, Google may ask you to add the following DNS record:

Type: TXT
Name: @
Value: google-site-verification=abc123xyz
TTL: 3600

Once the record is added, the service checks the DNS configuration to confirm domain ownership.

  1. Email Verification
Some platforms verify ownership by sending an email to a domain-related address.

Example:
admin@market.gy

You confirm ownership by clicking the verification link included in the email.

The zone file for your domain can typically be obtained from your hosting provider.

Log in to the DNS management interface or control panel (such as cPanel) provided by your hosting organization. Under the DNS Management or Zone Editor section, look for the option to export or download the zone file for your domain.

Adding DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions) to your domain enhances the security and reliability of DNS responses. DNSSEC helps ensure that DNS data is authentic and protects users from spoofing or tampering attacks.

How to Add DNSSEC to Your Domain

  1. Log in to the control panel (such as cPanel) provided by your hosting provider.
  2. Locate the DNSSEC settings and enable or activate DNSSEC for your domain. Some hosting providers do not provide DNSSEC for the domains they are hosting
  3. Retrieve the DS (Delegation Signer) record, which typically includes the following information:
    • Key Tag
    • Algorithm
    • Digest Type
    • Digest
  4. Submit the DS record details to your domain registrar. Some registrars allow you to enter the DS record directly through the domain management interface.
